Thank you for considering adopting one of our homeless animals into your home. Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit strives to match the best possible companion pet with every adopter. During this process, we ask potential adopters about their homes, lifestyles, family members, activity levels, and previous experience with pets. This helps ensure successful placement of a pet in their new forever home. We do our best to update our Adoptables information as frequently as we can. If you’re interested in a specific pet, we recommend that you call the shelter and ask if they’re still available. Adoption questionnaires are processed in the order that they come in.

The process for adopting your pet is easy! Just follow the steps below.

How to Adopt a Cat or Dog

Step 1 – Find an Animal to Adopt
View our Adoptables to select the one or ones you might be interested in.

Step 2 – Fill Out an Adoption Questionnaire
While you’re searching for the perfect pet to adopt, we can pre-qualify your adoption questionnaire to avoid any delays in the adoption process. Complete and submit our Adoption Questionnaire, even if you have not yet selected your new family member.

Step 3 – Speak with an Adoption Specialist 
Once you have selected an animal and filled out an online questionnaire, you will receive a call from one of our adoption specialists. They will go over the questionnaire with you, and discuss the adoption process. If you have been approved to adopt, you will come meet the animal, and if all goes well, finalize your adoption. They can also answer any questions you may have about the history and behavior of an animal.  Our adoption specialists are here to help!

Step 4 – Complete Your Adoption
If the meeting goes well and both the shelter and you agree that this is the right pet, some additional checking of your questionnaire will take place. Again, we want this to be a successful adoption for you and the pet, so this “checking” is to ensure a long-lasting friendship. Next we complete the Adoption Agreement, which asks you to agree to certain things for the ongoing care of your future family member and pay our very affordable adoption fee.
