Dearborn’s Henry Ford Village Collects Items for FAMD

December 1st, 2020

For most, Thanksgiving is one day in November in which to give thanks for and share life’s blessings. At Dearborn’s Henry Ford Village, the spirit of the holiday lasts the entire month.

Each fall for more than a decade, HFV residents have typically donated truckloads of food to one of several local food pantries in advance of the holidays. This year, community members extended their focus to include several charitable organizations, thanks to the increased use of technology and virtual programming within the community.

Three agencies – Focus: HOPE, Love a Michigan Vet, and Friends of Animals of Metro Detroit – took weekly turns providing a virtual educational presentation to residents. The video series allowed donations to be tailored to the organizations’ specific needs.

“In sharing their organizations’ missions, personal stories of lives impacted, they gave HFV residents the opportunity to learn of their mission, how they serve needs of the community, and how we too can support those they serve.” said Matthew Wallace, HFV’s Assistant Director of Resident Life.
