On May 3, 2023 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the MaryAnn Wright Animal Adoption and Education Center (AAEC), in anticipation of Be Kind to Animals Week, FAMD hosted their first Dearborn Chamber of Commerce Mutts & Meows Mixer After Hours event. An intimate group of 20 guests, staff and board members joined to discuss plans for the capital campaign phase two of development of the five-year-old AAEC. We are currently promoting the Kay and Doug Neff dollar-for-dollar match, up to $100,000 for new shelter donations to move completely into our new building by the end of the year.

Park Place of Dearborn catered the event with appetizers and beer and wine. Tours of the dog kennels and cat condos were given, where guests got to see firsthand where fundraising has benefitted these animals while they await their forever families. Cashew, the golden retriever puppy, was brought out to meet everyone and ultimately went to his new forever home the next day.

The event was a lot of fun, with professionals ranging from the Chamber of Commerce and Dearborn Federal Savings Bank, to the City of Dearborn Heights, agreeing that we must collaborate again, soon. Bringing community together will gain FAMD more visibility and support through our next endeavors.
