DEARBORN. March 5, 2020 – While their name may be Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit, this local organization is willing to help animals wherever they may be – in this case, a struggling shelter in Louisiana. On Thursday, March 5, 2020, Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit (FAMD) will be receiving seven animals through a partnership with Animal Rescue Corps. These seven animals will travel to Michigan for a chance at a new start, and to find their forever homes. According to Animal Rescue Corps, “Many of these dogs have lived their entire lives in this particular shelter – some as long as 11 years! For having lived there so long, we were pleased to see that they are extremely social and people friendly. They are all dog friendly as well, as the shelter had them in playgroups together.”
Of the seven animals FAMD will be receiving, six are dogs, ranging in ages from 12 weeks to a year. Two of the dogs are also heartworm positive, which will require extra treatment and care. Rounding out the 7 is a 2-year old male cat named Benetton. Once these new friends have had time to decompress and been medically evaluated, they will be available for adoption. Donations are also being accepted for their care, and the care of the over 2,400 animals who come through FAMD each year.
