DEARBORN. July 16, 2019 – On Monday July 15, the city of Dearborn was contacted by a family member of a Dearborn resident who had numerous Shih Tzus living in their home. Due to various circumstances, the dogs were not receiving the care that they needed, and city officials visited the home, where the home owner relinquished ownership of all the dogs to FAMD. The dogs are various ages, and the majority need some veterinary care and grooming. We are working to get all of the dogs what they need to be placed up for adoption, which hopefully will be within the next few days. People interested in adopting one of these dogs can go to our website (metrodetroitanimals.org) and fill out an adoption questionnaire. Consideration will be given in the order in which the questionnaires are received. Those that would like to contribute to their care can donate online at https://www.metrodetroitanimals.org/get-involved/donate/summerappeal/
We have a 1:1 matching donation of $5,000 pledged by board members MaryAnn Wright, Laurie Buhr, Lisa Bahash, Fred Johns and Dr. Dizik – Lincoln Park Veterinary Hospital & Affiliated Veterinary Emergency Services to help care for these animals and the over 2,5000 animals that FAMD shelters each year, many of whom require special medical treatment.
