For every donation of $50 or more, we’ll take down a leash from our Links of Love fence and give it to one of the nearly 2,000 animals who walk out our door with a loving forever family. And now, every donation will be matched 1 to 1 up to $100,000 thanks to a generous donor.
Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit isn’t just another shelter — it’s our love for dogs and cats that sets us apart. And it’s that love that ensures every dog and cat who comes into FAMD gets medical care, vaccinations and microchips — and all the time they need to find the perfect home.

We’re expanding the MaryAnn Wright Animal Adoption & Education Center so we can do even more for the animals we all love so much. More care, more adoptions, more programs for youth and adults. And of course, more love!
The expansion will bring our animals into one state-of-the-art building from intake to adoption. This gives them a more spacious, healthier space where they can start the journey to their forever homes.
The expanded center will allow us to bring our 16 full-time and 10 part-time staff members, and nearly 400 volunteers together in the same building. Instead of working miles apart, our hard-working team can be more coordinated, and more effective in helping animals in need than ever before.
We’re proud of everything we’ve done to help animals in need. And with bigger growth comes even bigger plans — your support can help us grow from everything we’ve done so far.
As part of Phase 2, we’re using our new multifunction space for more community programs, volunteer opportunities, and support services, such as Read to Rover for kids. Research shows children who are taught kindness toward animals tend to mature into caring, responsible adults. Our programs will help the community learn about the important role animals have in our lives and will inspire the human-animal bond.
